OZ Systems Supported TX Senate Bill 1404 to Improve Parental Consent

“OZ Systems has always strongly supported what was best for Texas babies and their families. The need for an efficient way to collect newborn screening parental consent is yet another area where we strive to improve.”
– Terese Finitzo, Ph.D., CEO

Governor Abbott signed Texas Senate Bill 1404 into law on June 10, and it will go into effect on September 1.

The law, which was originally introduced by Senator Beverly Powell and passed unanimously by the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, provides for the following:

1) A process to permit the parent, managing conservator, or guardian of a newborn child to provide consent for infant screening through electronic means, including audio or video recording.

2) A process to determine the manner of storing electronic consent records.

3) A process to ensure the newborn child’s attending physician has access to the electronic records for the child.
